01 How much does stump grinding cost?
Most residential stumps cost between £100 and £375. The price depends on the stump diameter, the package you choose, and access. We quote a fixed price before we start — no surprises. Multiple stumps on the same visit get up to 20% off.
02 How long does stump grinding take?
Small stumps under 12 inches take 15–30 minutes. Medium stumps take 30–60 minutes. Large hardwood stumps like oak can take 1–2 hours. Setup and cleanup add about 15 minutes to any job.
03 Do I need permission to grind a tree stump?
If the original tree had a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or stood in a conservation area, you may need to notify your local council. Most stumps from already-felled trees have no restriction. We'll check TPO status with you before booking — free of charge.
04 What happens to the roots underground?
We grind the stump 200mm below ground level but the roots stay in the ground. Without the stump above them, they stop growing and decay naturally over 5–10 years. For most gardens this is perfectly fine — turfing or planting on top works straight away.
05 Will the stump grinder fit through my garden gate?
Our compact machines fit through gaps as narrow as 750mm — that's most standard garden gates. For really tight access we have a handheld grinder that fits through 600mm. Send us a photo of your access point with your quote request and we'll confirm before we book.
